I asked [livejournal.com profile] randomdreams to make me a stereoscope slide for the tripod so I can take better stereoscope pictures. The camera is mounted at one point slightly to the left of the tripod, you take the picture, then slide it over so that the second picture is slightly to the right. http://www.stereoscopy.com/jasper/slide-bars.html Exact same point every time. I wanted a level mounted on it too. These retail for $50-$200, but I have a mad scientist on my payroll* for a reason.

He comes back with a prototype: "This slide can withstand an 800lb load and can take 5 axis' of stress loading! Look at it glide!"
I'm freaking shocked it doesn't have laser beams to guide alignment.
Note to self: request laser guidance system.

I laugh at stereoscopy.com's "heavy duty."

*he is paid in noms. I make the very best noms.

Mad scientists are good to have around. What camera do you use for stereoscopy?

I remember a viewer and collection of pictures at my grandmother's house back in the day.

I use stereoscopes in my practice to improve my patient's depth perception. Unfortunately "medical grade" pictures are beyond boring so I am working on making "I spy" type stereo pictures.

I took a 3D retinal photography course in eyeball school and figured if I can do eyeballs, I can probably do other things as well.

My first attempt here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/63296606@N00/6662213929/) was not great but worked. Encouraging!

I have an Olympus EPL1.
