The Lonely Hearts Hotel. Heather used to be on this podcast and the stories were so wild that I never could tell if they were fiction or not. I wonder why her short stories are so bananas and her fiction is all drug addicts and rape.

Poet and I are going back and forth about awesome bands we've seen and music etc and it gets sorta oneupsmanshippy until I go, "Oh yeah, I saw Leonard Cohen at Red Rocks but what I REALLY remember is..... I saw Nickleback before they were big."
He just dies laughing.

They opened for The Bloodhound Gang. No one believes you that The Bloodhound Gang is super fun and actually good.

We took Monty to Home Depot last night to pick up stucco patch. She spent the entire time cleaning the beards of the guys in the paint department and boy did they love it. They keep cookies in their pockets.

In a move that would make [personal profile] sistawendy and [personal profile] elusis very very proud, I bought my first pair of Fluevogs because they are a flat black leather boot, which is mega difficult to find at any cost.

I got asked more than once today about how somebody gets 17 contact lenses stuck in their eye.

I'm betting they were Acuvue Dalies, the crappiest of all the lenses. They fold, shatter, and get lost really easily in there. I stopped wearing them because I couldn't find all the tiny pieces in my eyeball and that's my job.

The Glass Castle. My friend told me to read this after I told him stories of my childhood summers spent in a Volkswagen Bus and eating cold corned beef hash out of a can.

Chu's First Day of School Review:
The illustrations look like humans in plastic animal suits and it freaks me out. If this was not a children's book, and 3/4 of the way though the suits started peeling revealing burn-victim humans that need the suits for life support, then this book would be awesome.

What. Is. That.

[personal profile] randomdreams was out walking Monty and heard a cockatiel hiding under a bush. I really don't know the probably of a tiny bird chirping out before an ice storm and somehow the person walking by speaks fluent cockatiel but it hopped on his shoulder and he brought it home.

Monty reluctantly did not eat the bird.

He says it's a girl bird and they are happily tweeting at each other. He's feeding her red pepper bits. In the morning I'll take her off to the animal shelter.

I'm reading a hearty amount of children's books this year in order to maintain my hope for the future.

Snail and Slug by Denys Cazet. Nobody else on goodreads seems to pick up that this is OBVIOUSLY a lesbian book. Check it out and let me know. It'll take you 2 minutes to read.

Steve, raised by Wolves by Jared Chapman. Hilarious.

Scar Island by Dan Gemeinhart. A modern Lord of the Flies with great pirate adults.

Solutions for Cold Feet and Other Little Problems by Carey Sookocheff xoxoxoo

Where's the Party by Ruth Chan. Oh god, the best one yet, maybe ever. You KNOW these people as giraffes and they might even be you. The Brownstone of the 1800's poster is Amazing. I'm buying this one.

Berlioz the Bear. Best illustrations.

Sad, the dog. One pallet of tissues please.

We have always lived in the castle. Remember life before Amazon? Sucked.

I am Hero 1 & 2. Japanese zombie manga. I love the Japanese.

Honorable Mention: Things too Huge to Fix by Saying Sorry. The grandmother is an excellent role model. I hope to be arrested that many times when I am old. [ profile] gows would agree.

I promised [ profile] shellynoir a poem this month.

Ann Taylor is too Bright

I cannot leave the house
My hair is not done
Blue eye shadow is worn by hipsters
and who wants to be associated with them
It's warm under the dog
This hot toddy won't fit in a mug
Snow is in the forecast
But... there are trousers on sale at Ann Taylor
Wool ones, lined, in my size
Fortunately, with the internet I can click buy.
