John came home last night and said, "Oh there's a ladybug on the stairs.... and another one on the window."
He hears, "I MIGHT NEED SOME HELP UP HERE! DON'T STEP ON THE LADYBUGS!"

I love John because he thinks that filling the house full of a thousand ladybugs is fun too.

Then we went to the Vodka bar "Red Square" with the fantastic Gourlays. Mr. Ryan, the owner, remembered me (I guess it's hard to forget a blond who once drunk you and your friends under the table and still walked out on her little heels) and comped the desserts. I promised to return again soon.

This morning was a spirited jaunt to the OB/GYN where I unsuccessfully argued that "suicidal" and "attempting suicide" are different things and anyone who couldn't eat a bacon cheeseburger would be suicidal as well. So departed with a referral to a shrink, a Lexapro Rx, a referral to a Gastro-Interologist, and no new ideas about what's wrong with me, or any solutions. She ran an hours worth of tests and uncomfortable prodding.

I don't remember what your insurance situation is, but if the Lexapro is $$$, ask your doc if you can take citalopram, which is the generic of Celexa. (Lexapro was created by the same company as Celexa when Celexa went generic - I've been on Celexa for longer than I'd care to remember!).

And I agree re: suicidal - I've had conversations with people trying to explain the difference between "wishing I was dead" to "wishing I wasn't alive."

Thanks, but I'm not filling the Lexapro. There's nothing wrong with my head. I have things wrong with my ovary and intestines, if they didn't hurt, I would have no problems.
Antidepressants only work on people who are depressed. I'm not depressed, I'm in pain.

Well, you *are* depressed about being in pain, at least sometimes. I dunno if lexapro is the right way to approach that, though.

serotonin is possibly involved in chronic pain, FWIW... I've seen SSRIs help as part of a pain management regimen for some people.

I don't really want to try them. Should I?

I can't tell you what's right for you. I can say: Don't dismiss them out-of-hand. Don't take them without doing whatever you need to do in order to feel you're making a good decision. If you feel like your doctor is prescribing them because the pain is "all in your head" or something, get thee to another doc if possible. But if you feel like s/he understands what is going on with you, ask as many questions as you need to about how this is meant to help, what s/he hopes it will do, how long is a reasonable trial, how will you know if it's working or not, what side effects could you experience, which ones are likely to go away, etc etc.
