There was pineapple on the counter top. Food on sticks!

[livejournal.com profile] neslihan sent lots of things including Hot Shish Kabob Seasoning and Salep beverage.

Salep is a flour made from the tubers of orchids. Salep flour is consumed in beverages and desserts, especially in places that were formerly part of the Ottoman Empire.
It tastes a bit like horchata (I used hot milk and added honey), it's good.

I rubbed the kabob seasoning on some bison steak and added a little to the couscous. It was indeed hot and delicious!

Salep, now is that... -- ah kind of, I had two things mixed up in my head that branch off of it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saloop
Saloop, the hot drink, originally made with salep like your drink, but later with sassafras (like filé as thickener).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dondurma
Dondurma, Turkish ice cream, made with salep and mastic. Which I can't tell if I would love it or hate it.

I did the same thing in my head! I like mastic.

I like it. It's reminiscent of mochi ice cream.

I dislike the 95% of 'American' ice cream that is "extra creamy" by means of gummy thickeners, but I bet this would be so far out it's just a thing of its own. Can't find any in the Seattle area, sadly.
