John's sister-in-law, trying to be nice, got us a Kindle as a wedding gift. The one with the keyboard. John picked it out.

So far our relationship has gone like this:

*poke* *poke* *poke* "It's broken."
"It's not broken. It's just not a touch screen."
"What???? It looks like the Apple IIe. I hate the buttons, they hurt my hands. I hate the screen, it's dark and ugly. I hate that moving motion it makes when I turn the page. The internet sucks on this. None of the books I want are available. Why is it in black and white? The translator sucks.... I hate this more than I hate Apple products (I never thought I'd hate anything more than Apple products)."

So.... it's John's Kindle. Every time I try to use it I hate it more. He likes it though. Probably because it looks like an oscilloscope.

Weird, I was just reading another friend's entry who returned her Kindle Fire due to hatred also.

Why did she hate the Fire?

Bad UI, bad screen for reading, bad hardware design (power button on the bottom where you push it all the time). The lag and latency was partially fixed with their software update.

Ahhh...
If I liked it they would discontinue it. :)

I still like books better. Even the 8lbs I packed into my luggage. They have sticky notes as book marks with addresses for postcards.
And I don't have to worry if I drop them in the bath tub.
I make books into art, of course I love them so very much.

If I travel as much this year as I did last year, a grayscale touch reader (probably nook, maybe kindle) will save my life. Books are better at home, but bulky and heavy on the road.

Also, for the tub, I hear a quart ziploc does just fine.

For those of you who want one, don't get a Kindle Fire. I have had issues downloading books and when I talked to Amazon, and looked on some of the forums for troubleshooting it, there's no ETA for resolution of this problem. Basically, I'd purchase a book and it would supposedly dowload it, but all I'd get is the book cover and blank pages.~from her journal.
