Our turkeys don't come with plastic bits and paper-wrapped bits. OTOH, we raise our own. That might have something to do with it.
I've cooked one turkey in my life. It was one that we raised. We brined it in a sugar/salt brine overnight, smoked it for several hours, then roasted it, injected with whatnot and basted with bacon grease the entire time. It was brilliant.
My mother-in-law, before she passed, never cooked a dry turkey either.
