Why are these Anne Klein slacks $2?

The third job in 3 months means third try at assembling a wardrobe.
One ought to dress like one's superior. She's really conservative in clothing department (she hates clothes). Turtleneck, slacks. That's it. Maybe a light sweater. No jewelry, no jacket, no lab coat. She did say that I ought to wear slacks rather than skirts, lots of time on the floor with kids.
I got lucky at the thrift stores today: 3 slacks (1 blue pinstripe, 1 red and yellow pinstripe, 1 plaid), 1 little orange black and yellow Vera silk scarf, 1 green corduroy jacket. =$20.
The red and yellow pinstripe Anne Klein slacks were priced at $2. I figured out that someone let the cuffs out and left the surged edge exposed, no cuff. A 5 minute problem I can sew by myself. Turns out that BLUE TAGS were 50% off, so the slacks were $1.
But it's the $2 Vera silk scarf that really made my day (it's shaped a bit like an undone bow-tie). I found it wadded up behind a plastic rain hat. Based on the signature, it looks like it's one of hers from the early 1950's! I'll take a picture once I have learned to tie it.
