*sigh*

They look good. They taste alright. But they are dry, and not chewy, not moist.

They'll still be gone in minutes.

-----------

If I had as much trouble cooking as I do with cookies, we'd have take-out every night.
It's not even all of baking! I can bread! I can cake! I can frost and bunt and pastry and souffle! Pie and Panna Cotta and Pralines! Just not so good at cookies....

.. I can't caramel or flan either.

They rose. It's not a rising issue.

If it is a crunchy versus chewy issue, would the tip about adding more liquid help?

Are you perhaps overbaking them?

I'm thinking you're baking them too long at too low a temperature. Try making another batch, cut it in half, add applesauce, same temp and time. The second half, raise the temp and decrease the cooking time. Or, call them "Lembas cookies" and talk like hobbits.

It took me all these years, but finally figured out the cookie baking secret (especially for us high altitude folks).

First, forget the high altitude directions. It's plain stupid.

Second, don't use margarine or butter. Use butter flavor Crisco or a combination in which most of it's butter flavor Crisco.

Third. That's all I got.
