I saw on a greeting card the other day, "If you want to be happy for one day: buy hookers and blow; for a lifetime: garden."

While we are at it:
What makes you happy?
What makes me happy:
My dog.
When
randomdreams, the dog, and I spoon.
Books, music, laptop, the internets.
I really enjoyed Regis University.
That dream I have where I am fly fishing off my recumbent.
Stuff I've bought that made me happy:
I'm gonna have to agree with all the other stuff that other people like in that article: art and bikes and cars and contact lenses and travel. Except for the camping gear, I hate camping.

my loved ones.
reading.
good food.
being outdoors in nature with wild animals around. even if they're habituated.
playing music with other people.
cross-stitch. weird sorting tasks like realphabetizing my books or making obsessive lists of books of interest or other non-book weird lists. playing music alone, including scales and stuff. learning languages. (this all makes me happy in the same exact way, hence the paragraph.)
interesting dreams.
computer stuff that doesn't have to do with working.
helping people at my job, or doing rote menial sorting labor at my job (shelving, shifting, shelfreading etc), or coming up with some small but brilliant insight in the course of my job. Watching my student workers become more confident & independent individuals who are nonetheless still full of uncrushed dreams. actually most of my job makes me at least mildly happy.
Art.
Being tipsy or really en-chocolated. (they work about the same)
Being alone in a very shiny city (eg Montreal, London, Paris, Seattle) and feeling like I have money and time to burn.
That's all the 8-10 on a scale of ten stuff, unless I'm just forgetting some obvious things.

Date: 2009-09-21 07:41 pm (UTC)Camping really isn't that bad. Except when it it is. Then it's an adventure you get to remember fondly, from the comfort of your armchair.
