Today in a garden shed at an estate sale I found a 1 liter jar full of tiny black seeds labeled "AMARANTH 'MEXICAN SUNFLOWER.'"
Well, those are two different plants. They were obviously not sunflower seeds, and inspection of the garden found a few amaranth plants of the red foliage and bloom type and about to go to seeds that looked like the ones in the jar.
Fifty cents.
I was just thinking the other day that I needed a whole lot of something seeds.
And they should be tasty too.
I worried about the dead couple's garden. It was well tended and lovely but needed water. I hope the family will pick the veggies.

randomdreams is doing well. Still bruised, but the scuffs are healing quickly and he almost has regained full motion of his shoulder.

Other gardeness: The pumpkins and other squash have only begun to flower. But the tomato plants are HUGE and productive. The ornamental kale is very pretty. The snow peas are finally done. I keep finding swiss chard. The rhubarb loves its new home. The datura is iffy (I hope it blooms again, it should, but said iffy). The dill is done, the rest of the herbs are fantastic. I found a lavender plant. The berries still need another year.
