The Home of the Dead Us
Saturday, December 22nd, 2012 05:07 pmI went to an estate sale yesterday on the foot of table mountain. Right on the park. It opened at 10 and I got there at noon. Most things were gone except for a stereo cabinet that I wanted but there was no one to help me lift it into the car and I'm not ready for that project.
These people were makers.
2 car garage with stations set up every few feet. Spots for lathes, saws, small repairs, potting, drills, etc.
Large nice (for the time) basement with a fireplace and same stations: calligraphy, present wrapping, sewing, photography....
The two kitchens were set up the same. Sink, fish sink, porch grill, chest freezer, pastry station...
The lady had closest of furs, hats, and gloves.
Bookshelves everywhere.
Unfortunately the whole place hadn't been updated since the early 1960's. Avocado green everything. Old windows.
"It would cost $100,000 to fix this house...." The windows alone would be at least $20,000.
Lots of houses on that block have been updated and flipped. They look lovely and cost it.
I love snooping in old houses.
