A guest requested water for his CPAP machine. Fortunately a jug found in the pantry sufficed.

Another guest requested tonic water. Someone left one here years ago. Too dubious, so going down the sink.

2 boxes of turbinado sugar made 1pt Buddha's Hand Sugar.

1 Asian Pear made 2pts Pickled Asian Pears in Meyer Lemon and Ginger. 1 pt perhaps goes to an office assistant who deserves more nice than I give her.

3 beets are roasting in the toaster oven for a beet cabbage pasta later this week. I was going to make the filling for the Wild Boar and Green Chile Empanadas but I'm getting tired.

Still need to make cabbage, kumquat, asian pear slaw to accompany the trout with lemon rice for dinner. J makes the trout, rice is already done.

I microplaned the meyer lemon, and thinly sliced my asian pears, used 1/2c of apple cider vinegar.

Wow, delicious. I will definitely try this, possibly even this week! Tell me of your slaw - your slaw combos always sound great. I have slaw-phobia having grown up on terrible, soggy coleslaw which is vile and must be stopped, but I have had some lovely slaws which did not trigger my "ew, slimy/bitter" reflex. What, in particular, is your secret for dressing them?

Also, if you have extra brine, make it into salad dressing. It's amazeballs.
