I spoke to a nutritionist today about my issue with my 3rd meal.

"I'm hypoglycemic so I have 4 small meals a day."
"Good. 8 a.m., Noon, 4 p.m., and 8 p.m.?"
"Yes, But I'm not sure about what I should do for my 3rd meal? Right now I eat a box of cookies."
"Cookies are for special times."
"Like 4 p.m.?"
"No. You need carbs and protein."
"Like peanut butter cookies?"
"Like peanut butter and an apple."
"Isn't that a lot of sugar?"
"You need a lot of sugar. Or hummus and veggies."

I've given up the 4 p.m. cookies for lent. PB&J it is.

PB&J ain't so bad. Almost as good as cookies. (Unless we're talking Samoas....)

I tend to have three "meals" and two "snacks" although one of my frequent snacks is called a meal bar. My other normal snack is beef jerky, for the protein.

I should look into this "peanut butter and an apple" of which you speak.

EDIT: Hypoglycemia sucks.

I ate a whole box of Tagalongs.

I am hitting up the jerky and apple this week.

Hypoglycemia is like the least bad of my medical problems and I know what to do about it. "Food" has very few side effects :)

Filberts. Dry spaghetti. Cheeese. Boiled egg. Baby food. Cinnamon toast. Dried fruit. Soup. Soup with melted cheese on top.

I don't know where I'm going with this. Making lists of snacks is the only satisfying thing I've done all day.

Cheese soup!
Okay, I got:
PBJ, beef jerky, celery, fruity nutty granola. How'd I do?

You are big lister, have you thought of a career as an Indexer?

If you "need a lot of sugar" what's wrong with cookies? Her suggestion of "peanut butter and an apple" doesn't jibe with her statement of "carbs and protein", since the apple won't provide any more protein than the peanut butter cookies would.

You have to understand that in the minds of many doctors, sweets ≡ bad, regardless of the logical consistency of their statements or reasoning. ISTM that they think the M in MD stands for "Mother". :)

I like the fat hit on "cheese + apple" better, personally, when I'm trying to do quality carbs with my protein snacks. Are you OK with dairy?

I feel like I eat a lot of cheese, dairy, and sugar; which is what I asked her about. Other things I should be eating.
I can't do soy or yogurt.
I picked up some celery, jam, peanut butter, and beef jerky at the store today. I'll make some sandwich bread tonight. I'll make some hummus and nutty granola this weekend.
