"You've got a big filling that's 15 years old. It's going to fall out soon, and when it does we'll need to do a crown."
"Okay. When do you think it'll fall out?"
"Anytime in the next 5 years."
"I'll put in for a day off sometime in the next 5 years and we'll do that."
"Great."

Some times I think dentistry is a scam, but then I remember that you really only have one set of adult teeth to work with and if you let them go...well, dentures or implants are always an option :)

Implants are an option if you have the money; currently I have a gaping hole in my mouth where I just had a tooth—thankfully, a molar—extracted, and I'm scrambling to find the money to pay for the implant.

Dentures are not a great option, trust me.

I'd like to see good insurance options available in the teeth-related arena. I used to pay a hefty amount for a dental plan through my employer but it covered next to nothing, and had a very limited array of dentists available in the area. Of the three providers under the plan, all of them had scathing online reviews. Poor service, awful follow up, and shoddy procedures.

I was being cynical...I know dentures are not fun. A friend of mine is in a similar predicament to yours, and is weighing her options as to what will go in the socket where a tooth was recently extracted. None of it sounds like any fun. I hope you're able to find a way to get the funds together to pay for the implant.
