Rancho Liboro, our local huge Mexican market with in house butcher, bakery, and restaurant has gone out of business.
No more fresh garbanzo beans, guavas, cactus fruit, hand made tortilla chips, carrots so huge they make you lol, yucca root, or heart-shaped potatoes. No more huitlacoche, pigs heads, oreo yogurt, octopus, happy cookies, flan, goat caramel, cuban bread, Mexican Pepsi, or 12 types of queso fresco.
I spent a lot of time in Mexico as a child and felt so happy at this grocery store.
It will be replaced with a Wal Mart.
------------------
As our gourmet King Soopers is sending things off to clearance pile land, they are not re-stocking.
Things found in the clearance pile:
Vermont Creamery's Cultured Butter $6. "What the hell is cultured butter? If it's normally $12 it must be good." We smeared it on rolls and displayed massive amounts of self control by not eating it by the spoonful alone.
2 Lobster tails, $5 each.
Strawberry Cardamon Jam. $2
Anisette cookies, flan cookies, orange cookies and M&M cookies. $2 each
Large bag of Skittles $2
Crab cakes $2 each.
Reed window shades $14 each.
Lego airplane $3
Free range chickens $5 each.
Cheese.
Found not in the discount bin: feijoa, rambutans, and lychees.
--------------
I made a salad with a large kohlrabi I grew, Kasseri cheese, and grapes. It was amazing.
