Oh I think it was more than that. She was talking about two six-year-old boys within the context of the conversation, so when she said "he likes the boys, then?" she wasn't talking about dating. That's why she was confused when you said he dated boys, too. I got the feeling she didn't know (or remember) that he dated boys, much less that he dated both girls and boys.
