I think
regyt recommended:
Wild Swans by Jung Chang
The Last Samurai by Helen Dewitt
The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon
Wild Swans was a loooong painful slog but worth it.
I gave The Last Samurai 50 pages, it was too annoying to continue.
I enjoyed The Speed of Dark but felt slightly irked at the level of sci fi, but then was delighted to read the Goodreads reports about how it didn't have enough sci fi. I figured it must be doing something right then.
I need to read 35 books by the end of December to hit 200 books for this year. There's a bunch of neurology books waiting at the library.
