Sick Puppy

On a normal day Lillian Booth talks a lot through grunts and moans and barks and wheezes. She's been mine for 6 years, so I am pretty sure of what she is talking about most of the time, "The Mailman/FedEx/UPS Man is here!" "There's a cat in the street!" "There's a cat in the YARD!" "I need to throw up." "I need to go #2." "I wish I had a cookie."

Around 1 a.m. last night she made, "I am in pain and confused" noises that I have never heard before. She crawled up on my chest and was shaking all over and looked scared. She's had some painful episodes in her life and never made noises like this. Imagine a scared cow dying.

I assumed her tummy was badly upset. I held her in my lap and rubbed her belly. I took her out for #2. She drank a bunch of water and I forced half a pepto into her. All the while making dying cow noises.

I spooned her and petted her and after the pepto her noises got quieter and less urgent. She eventually said she was tired and falling asleep. Her breathing returned to normal and I watched her sleep soundly for 30 minutes... then [livejournal.com profile] randomdreams, who slept though all this, started snoring.

She's much better today.

Tree!

Just because I don't want to go out and face shopping crowds doesn't mean the supplies for my projects magically appear.

Absurdly productive trip to Hobby Lobby: Fabric to recover vanity bench 30% off, mirror for bathroom 50% off, hardware to fix dog coat, paper to start a piece, ribbon to finish another piece, knobs to finish piano... Stopped by the French bakery for cookies. And we got a tree.

My sister Roz joined us for dinner and tree trimming. Joy! I made a loaf of Honey Oat Bread, and a pot of Potato Corn Chowder. So cozy and happy.

Roz has her first tree this year so we'll go out to the antique store to pick her out some neat ornaments.
