WHEAT RIDGE - A fire broke out at an animal shelter on Monday, killing three dogs.
The fire happened at the Best Friends Pet Care on West 44th Avenue at around 8 a.m.
Firefighters say they were able to resuscitate two dogs that were not breathing when they arrived.
There were 25 dogs in the building at the time of the fire and a total of 10 dogs were taken over to Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, authorities say.
Fire crews say the fire appears to have started in the upper part of a supply room or in the attic above the room.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
