In Pokemon Go (you can stop reading now) the Magikarp is the most useless Poke. Except if you catch enough of them, like 100, you can evolve it into the most awesome Poke. You find them near running water, so I've found 3. ever. There's a new option where you can Walk With Your Pokemon and gain extra candies to evolve it. You get 1 candy per kilometer. So I need 370 kilometers to level up my Magikarp... sigh.
Maybe I'll spend more time near the creek.
And maybe I'll find more in Japan.

The gent was in Baltimore for a week this summer, and managed to get really close to 100 in just that week. By the bay we get a bunch too, but apparently not at the insane right on the coast in a dense portal area like where he was.

Coastal Japan seems like a good bet. :}

Oh, this is good news. I too only have ever caught three. I also need a Raichu, so maybe I will walk a Pikachu around. I didn't get to play today or yesterday, so I didn't realize there was an update.

It's apparently only available for some people so far. :(

Someone on g+ has claimed the speed cutoff is 25mph. I am going to switch the handlebar mount to the bike and start putting in 40km/day of hatching and candy-collecting.

I got an update pushed today and was briefly excited, but it doesn't seem to contain that. Damnit. Maybe next time. At least Greenlake has some Magikarp sometimes. But I have all but one Ponyta I need to evolve it and it's KILLING ME, my KINGDOM for a flaming pony. [rueful grin]

The south side of mile high stadium has a huge statue of broncos rearing and fighting. The associated portal spits out ponyta like a firehose.

I don't know.

BUT! I found this discussion of CoSpr magikarp spots: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongocos/comments/4s1e4i/are_there_any_good_magikarp_spots_in_downtown/

sounds like lapping the Broadmoor lakes is a thing? we could go to the golden bee!

It also suggests there is a spawning spot in Monument (on the way down) just off the interstate.

Which seems like something you might be interested in ?

I'm very interested to hear what you find in Japan!

1/km is less than I hoped for, but better than the zero it was!

Don't you have water near you?

The lakes near me seem more prone to Golden than Magikarp.
There do seem to be a lot in Boston harbor, but that's 40 miles away and I don't get there often.

YES. I totally want a gyrados too! I get some magikarp in Seattle, but mostly only if I take a special trip to a lake or the waterfront.

Also, I've managed to acquire a Lapras, Snorlax, and Chancey, hatched, and a Lickitung caught in the wild.
