Sunday, July 6th, 2008 10:12 amI forgot to mention that a starfish the size of a hubcap tried to eat me.
We were at a sort of "ocean encounter" exhibit in Port Angeles. They have these pools with "pettable" sea creatures.
John ends up in some sort of very long discussion regarding metals with the alert uniformed attendant. So no one is making sure I don't get into trouble. You're supposed to just pet the sea creatures, not get entangled with them.
I see this little starfish arm and stick my finger up to the tip. I get so fascinated by the little starfish arm grabbing my fingertip, very ET, that I don't notice that there is much, much more starfish making its way out from a rock.Suddenly, the starfish has many, many more arms going for my hand and trying to crawl up my arm. I alert the distracted attendant, "Ummm... is it going to hurt me?" "Do I look like the kind of man that would put a creature that would hurt you in a petting section?" "....."
"NO! I'm worried about you hurting it!"
He showed me how to very slowly and gently dislodge the starfish suckers and arms. It came cleanly off me without injury to either party. My finger felt all tingly for about an hour and all the old skin was sucked off.
It was neat.
John got pictures.
